I was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1965.
Studied photography at Ar.Co. (Lisbon) in 1984/85, and later worked as a free-lancer editorial photographer and as independent video producer/camera/director from 1987 to 1991.
Completed a BA in History at Universidade Lusíada in 1992, and from 1992 until 1996 taught Photography in technical schools on the Lisbon area. Moved to London in September 1996, to frequent the MA in Image and Communication at the Photography Department of Goldsmith’s College. After completed the studies program and as a consequence of the Goldsmith’s final show I was invited to undertake an art commission for Siemens UK. This led to develop a project in Bracknell, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Manchester, which later would result in a solo show held at Siemens in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Returned to Portugal in 1998 and since then been exhibiting and publishing regularly either in Portugal or abroad. I went back to London in 2002 and commence an Audio Visual PhD Studies at the School of Art and Media, University of Westminster in September 2005. The object of research are The New Towns Program / UK 1946 – 1970s. It aims to examine and interrogate the role of photography in relation to the discourses of ‘modern’ architecture and urban planning. A practical photographic work will investigate the ideological elements of the urban landscape in its present condition. A written research will critically discuss and evaluate the types of photographs that (re)present the utopian and ideological expectations of the New Towns in the U.K. .
